Nokia’s Guide to Flash Lite Components documentation

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Hey, fellow mobile developers, Scott Janousek here. I just became aware today, that Forum Nokia put out a new design document on creating mobile Flash Lite Components for S60 devices.

This is an excellent resource to compliment what we covered in Chapter 6 (framesworks and UI compoennts) of our book.

The documentation is a follow up to their Flash Lite component set initiative.

This document is useful if you want to learn how to build Flash Lite components on Nokia S60 devices (e.g. 5800, N97, etc).

Also, if you’re interested, that (crazy Canadian) Darren created a short devnet tutorial on how to build a list component for Flash Lite 2.x.

Although creating your own component sets is time consuming and defeats the purpose of reusing, or customizing prebuilt components, there are situations where you want to rebuild components for certain devices and platforms, so I think it’s very valuable to read this article.

Forum Nokia actually just recorded a podcast if you missed it.

“In this Forum Nokia Podcast, Forum Nokia’s Bill Volpe speaks with Riku Salminen, Forum Nokia Technical Consultant, and discusses the newly released set of components for Flash Lite developers.”

Listen to podcast.

Anyways, enjoy the new component material we talked about in this post, and we hope you visit us back here at the companion book site for more upcoming resources you can take advantage of.

Oh yeah, Forum Nokia is sponsoring a contest for the designing components. Not sure if you’ll catch it here before this site goes live, but the contest is here (deadline June 30th).
